Default Help! Can't drive faster than 3-5 MPH!

I have a 03 Ford Explorer XLT with a 4.6 liter sohc 16 valve v8 engine. I was driving to work and started to decelerate till I could no longer maintain speed. I coasted off to the side of the road. Once on the side of the road, I would push down on the gas pedal. My vehicle would rev up but die, I was still able to start it up after it died, it would travel for a bit but couldn't handle much stress without shutting down. Any one have any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone before?

It is important to know the weather conditions at the time you are driving.
For example;
If the fuel filter has not been changed for the winter there could be enough water in the filter and line that when the temperature gets low enough that water will freeze and the result is a blocked fuel filter/fuel line.
Also some vehicles when driven in heavy snow have a tendency to block the air intake and the engine ends up starving for air.
So , as you can see it helps when you can supply as much info as you can. Don't worry about it not being important because it's difficult to come up with a possible cause , not being there.

If you just purchased fuel that could have a bearing on the problem.
