Help. Wont Start
I have a 2000 Ford Explorer 2 door. Its got the v6 SOHC. It started fine 2 days ago. Went to start it today and all it does is crank. it wont start. The fuel pump is not kicking on. Short of taking to a dealership to have the pump replace, is there anything else I can do? Thanks.

RE: Help. Wont Start
It could possibly bethe fuel pump relay out in the battery junction box in the engine bay.. An easy way to test for power distribution through a 'closed/energized' relay (supplying circuit voltageout to the fuel pump) is to test for 12v coming out of the fuel pump inertia switch in the right/passenger kick panel.. If theres voltage coming out of the inertia switch, chances are the pumps failed.. If there's no voltage in/out of the inertia, could be the relay.. You cantry swapping the fuel pump relay with the horn relay and see if it starts.. Your owners manual should have the relay positions, or I can post them here...

You might take notice that the fuel pump circiut is only entergized for 2 seconds with key on. You have to cycle it to verify operation. If you listen for the relays to click, that will give you a clue as to whether they are working or not. Take notice that the power relay for the pcm is the master for the circuit. The pcm must be entergized to activate the fuel pump circuit. Check your check engine lite for operation when you turn the key on. It should come on and go thru proveout, that would tell you the pcm is online. [sm=mail.gif]

RE: Help. Wont Start
Hi if it still is not working check the fuel shut off switch, It is on the passenger side, there should be a red button on it push it to reset. The switch is made to shut off the fuel pump in the event of accident but, sometimes they get a little touchy just a hard tap could set it off. Hope this helps good luck.
