Mold in 2013 Ford Explorer
Has anyone experienced mold and water in the spare tire area of their 2013 Ford Explorers? I have not driven through any high water. I have a weatherproof mat that sits over my third row seats and that has not been damp. My husband noticed that I had mold growing when he went to look for my air pump. When we took everything out, there was almost 3 inches of water sitting in my spare tire area.

After you pull the plug and let the water drain and clean up the mold, this is how we find those leaks.
Put the cover back on and sit there when flowing water with a hose over the entire rear hatch area including the license plate area . After a short while you should see the water leaking into the inside and it just travels to the lowest spot ,the spare tire well.
Sometimes we spread a little talcum powder in places to help pin down the path.
Once you find the entrance , sealing it is usually pretty easy depending on the source.
