Angry my 93 explorer wont move at all!

i own a 1993 explorer xlt it has a 4.0 L V6 with an automatic transmisson.
the tranny seemed just fine the day i bought it it shifted smoothly and the only part that i have had to replace on my truck has been the power steering box. but about 3 days after i replaced the power steering box i was driving and tapped the gas a little harder than i normally would just to see how well my explorer could get up and go it did great but on my way back to the house i hit the gas again but from a stop and the truck jerked me back into my seat for about 2 seconds and then just would not go. i towed it back to the house with my parents tahoe. it starts up right away and the engine is still very very strong but when i put it into reverse it idles up but will not engage into gear. it does the same thing when i try to put it into drive or overdrive it idles up but will not engage into gear. i am really hoping that i do not have to replace the transfer case. i have also tryed engaging the 4 wheel drive high but it still wont run i have even tryed 4x4 low but still nothing. does anyone have any suggestions on what i could do? is it the transfer case or the whole tranny? because if its the whole tranny itself i might aswell just swap it to a manual lol.

Did you hear any unusual sounds from the tranny? I had one make a horrible breaking metallic sound when it went.
