Default Noise at 2800 - 3000 RPM

Hello,

Lately, I have noticed that everytime that I merge on to the freeway, my Explorer makes a fan-like noise, that comes from the engine, when I accelerate my car to merge. When accelerating, the RPM needle climbs just fine but when it's about to hit 2800 rpm (right before the transmission shifts), I hear this fan like (wind) noise coming from the engine. It almost sounds as if a valve that lets out air opens. Have any of you noticed this in your Explorer? I own a 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Baeur. Thanks for your feedback!

Best,

Enrique
