96 Escort/1.9 eng/on cold start,idles @ 3000 rpms!
HiYa, I got a 96 Escort, 1.9 eng. 72 K miles. On a cold start, it starts right up and goes to 2,000 rpms. Then it increases to 2,500 then 3,000 rpms and stays there (3 to 5 minutes)until I see the temp gauge start to move indicating that the thermostat opened and then the high idle "wavers" up and down like it can't find itself, sounding like it's choking itself then abruptly falls to a "normal" idle and runs great. I cleaned the IAC (piston moves freely) checked the resistance (between 6-13 ohms range) this one had 8 ohms, checked the ECU delivery voltage to the IAC (around 6.5 volts) I tried another used IAC from a 93 Escort 1.9 motor, it had a cold start idle of 2,000 rpm but the motor died when it warmed up.[sm=WTFsgign.gif] I put the original one back on an am still confused. Can the original IAC be defective or slow to respond that itruns at @ 3,000 rpms? Does this IAC have to be a "specific" IAC to match the ECU on each car or are they "generic" and all of them are thesame? I just want to make sure before spending 60 bucks at Ford & still have the same problem![:@] I also checked for vacuum leaks, don't seem to be any since it runs at a perfectwarm idle.I sure do appreciate any help on this migraine! Thanks ! Happy New Year![sm=massbounce.gif]
