Default Starter issue

I own a 95 explorer, starter went out and needs replaced. Went to remove it and can't get the damn thing out, tried to loosen the motor mounts and received nothing but some busted socket extensions. Advice is appreciated. No money for a shop.

Forget about the motor mount for now.
Tip the starter wire terminals end up and place the drive gear down and remove the starter down to the ground through the opening. Try to remember just which way things were facing so you can put the replacement back in the same way.
