Default Sudden Oil Failure

My 92s oil gauge dropped to empty on the freeway and after pulling into a gas station at my house to pick up more oil, I noticed a thick trail leading back on the freeway and ending under the car where it was heamorraging oil in a steady stream, I had to limp home and put something under it to catch the remains. Any quick ideas as to problem and fix? Is this a usual problem with the Explorer....

P.S I have recently replaced the head gaskets and the fuel pump[:'(]

no way to find out where the oil was coming from on the engine? if you know where it is leaking it would be a lot easier to figure out the problem. I know that for a few years Ford was having problems with seals on their oil pans, but I think I think that was their late model diesels. what engine do you have in your explorer?
