Hello,

I just bought a used 2000 Explorer, auto, 4wd. When switch the 4wd switch from auto to high or low, I get a scary sounding scrunch in. It seems to go into 4wd alright but the transition is scary sounding. I doubt it's normal, what does a guy do in this case?

I think your supposed to be able to swith into 4wd on the fly, i do when driving in snow and dont have any problem. I noticed though, that as time goes by, the front end makes is louder than it used to be in 4wd. The car is supposed to pop into 4wd if necessary by itself, never seen that happen.
