I have an 04 5.4 liter f150, I was looking to make an engine upgrade. ( roller starting to tick, so time to pull engine apart.) I figured since I was taking it apart I might as well see if I can upgrade. Between Sourcing kits online and reading forums/ threads, it seemed like the 04 has no mods. However the 05 5.4 has "hot rod cams". Intake manifold. And throttle body. There is some difference between the cam phasers between 04 and 05 but if I was changing the entire can and phasers along with chains and tensioner, oil pump, all the good stuff that was not on the 04.. it should mount right up with the motor ( and a tune). Right? Then last question, will after market cams make you fail smog in CA? Thank you.
