Default 1983 F-150 new engine add / replace

Wanting to replace current engine, 351W 2bbl, with a newer one. Was thinking from 2010-2019? Don’t want to move a bunch of stuff around. Was hoping to get something I could simply drop in. I use truck to pull a camper, so need power and good MPG. I also want to upgrade the tranny. Right now I have a 3sp auto, I think it’s what they call a C-6? Want to pick up up a second hand low mileage motor and trans from local salvage yard, but don’t know what to ask for. Any help? Thanks

Unless you have oddles and oddles of $$$ to spend, I wouldn't say it can't be done, BUT There are other ways to get more for your hard earned cash.

One nice thing about an 83 is just about any shop can fix them , not so with newer engines and computers.
Depending on where you want to go , parts for an 83 can be difficult to come across so maybe a newer engine is something to consider.BUT anything from the 90s and up
require sensors and computers and there is to my knowledge no such thing as a drop in.
As I see it, you are working with apples and oranges and the only thing in common is they are a type of fruit
The difference in years is the same thing. The only thing they have in common is they both use gasoline and the similarity ends there. I would suggest you do a lot more checking around and there are some knowledgeable folks on this forum that may have better suggestions. Let's hope they can provide possible answers more to your liking.
