Default 1999 F-150 wont shift

Did I little searching on here, but couldn't find the answer I wanted. So here's the scoop. Title says 99 but it's a 97

My 97' F-150 does not like to shift out of park, after checking some things, the brake lights work at various levels of peddle pressure, and as most of you know, if the brake lamps are not on, the vehicle will not shift. This started about a week ago and I don't have any problems driving it, but sometimes it takes a while to find a pressure on the brake peddle that works to shift.

So I am just wondering is there a fix for this, and what is the issue? Fuses are good. Is there a sensor for the brake that's not getting a good connection or voltage?

Either adjust or replace the switch.

It is more than likely the brake light switch on the steering column where the brake pedal bracket almost touches the steering column.
