Question 2000 F-150 4.2L Transmission going out

How do I find which transmission I have in my truck? I am sure I am missing something somewhere, surely it is stamped or a tag somewhere on this vehicle that tells me exactly which tranny it is but I am over looking it or just flat not looking in the right place. Thanks for any help on this.

It could have either a 4R70W (most likely with this engine) or a 4R100 (the newer version of the E4OD).
what's wrong with it?

It started with the overdrive button flashing. So changed filter and fluid and now it is downshifting late and a little hard and almost every time u put it in overdrive it starts flashing. So I am assuming tht tranny is on the way out. Can't say I can complain it has 225k on it so it would be about time. Just trying to find out exactly which one it is so I can order the right one andthe right torque converter for it thanks for looking and helping

Well, I'd have to agree that it's on the way out, but there are two different trannys for this truck. A quick (not easy, but that's another story) way to tell is to look at either the trans cooler lines; are they one on top of the other, or is one closer to the front then the other. Also, is the electrical connector (on rt side rear of trans) oval or hexaganol in shape? This will tell what you need.
