2000 F-150 only getting 7.18 mpg?
The last time I checked my mpg was a while back and I was getting roughly 15.8 - 16.1 on average. I have a 2000 F-150 4X4 with a 5.4L. I went camping this weekend and towed our 26 ft. camper weighing approx. 5500 lbs. I expected to lose some mpg's but not 8 or 9. I towed with OD off going and with it on (only at higher speeds) coming back. I really believe there is a problem other than just towing a lot of weight. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

I have a 2001 Expedition with the same engine. I was towing another vehicle, and I lost a lot of mpg as well. I usually get approx 13mpg, and I ended up averaging under 8mpg. That's just part of towing; youend up using a lot of gas. I don't think there is anything wrong with your truck.
We own a 02 F-150 Supercrew with a 4.6 L and use it for towing our rv as well, from pop-up to now a 26 ' trailer. You will definetly loose on the gas milage end of things but I find 7-8 mpg quite a loose though, naturally with head winds and hills it will reduce, on the open plains you should fair better than 7-8 mpg, should sit around 10 mpg.
