Default 2003 Ford cigarette lighter issues

hi...i bought a nifty little gag gift that is supposed to make noise every time you start the car...it plugs into the cigarette lighter. however it kept going off at random intervals and sometimes with every little bump the truck hits. i looked into the ports itself and see that they are old and worn out...both if them. how do i replace them?

Most cigarette lighter/power ports have a tubular cover that screws on to them from the rear of the port. You need to get access to the back of the lighter assy. to unscrew the cover. About 3 inches long and about an inch and a half in diameter. The cover is usually ribbed so you can turn it easily.

If it gag gift makes any noise then the fuse is good. You could replace the fuse to cross out the possibility to a intermittent fuse fault.

Some lighter ports don't get used much, so age may not be a problem. Doubt if worn out, more suspicious of the item going into the socket.
