Default 2007 F150 4.2, Alternator Locked up

How hard is it to put new bearings in these alternators, I asked a local rebuild shop and they didn't want to do it for an individual they would for a dealership or known garage, reason is this alternator is controlled by on board computer. and if something goes wrong the shop has equipment to check this out before it ruins the alternator. I think all mine needs is just the bearings replaced. has anyone had experience with this type of alternator or installed bearings in them before? all help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Unless you're really partial to the one that you have, it's a lot easier to just purchase a replacement unit. RockAuto has a large selection of new and reman'd units from $79-190 depending on your flavor. Plug-n-Play is always easier. If you buy one from Ford it WILL be a reman'd unit.
