Default 2018 3.3l ti-vct v6 F-150 engine ticking

Hi,
I recently purchased a new F-150 with the 3.3l ti-vct v6 engine. I am noticing a ticking noise from the engine when it is at idle. The vehicle has 300 miles on it currently. I am wondering if anyone else has this engine and is hearing a tick? Some opinions on other forums are that it may be from the injectors/fuel system. I am taking it back to the dealer and would like to be informed prior to the visit. It would be nice to know if others with the same engine are experiencing this.

Your most likely hearing the fuel pump. The fuel pump is mechanical driven and pushes an average of 1250 PSI. If you pop the plastic cover off the top of the engine you will see some noise deadening foam mounted to the cover. This foam blankets the pump to reduce noise. I don't hear my 15 F-150 3.5 EB pump, but my 16 Fusion 2.0 EB is slightly noisy.

Thanks,
I took it to the dealer and they showed me what was making the noise; the fuel pump as you stated. I asked them to show me another vehicle with the same engine and it was also making the noise.

Yep, they tick like a high pressure piston pump. Some are louder than others. My F-150 3.5 EB is quiet while my friends Expeditions 3.5 EB is louder than my Fusions. It's just the way the noise travels and gets amplified within the engine compartment. You could try adding some additional foam around the pump to see if you can muffle is farther.

They acutally ARE a high pressure piston pump. I think its a scoth yoke piston.
