Default '88 300 I-6 starter question

hey guys i got a 1988 ford bronco w/ the 300 inline six. i know it's not a f-150 but the motor came in the f-150 too. i can't get the starter to fit/work properly. i put a new starter in it and had to shim it, it still makes a horrid wirring noise when cranking. is there some special starter or shim i should try to get? it's just a woods beater so a rigging up job won't hurt anything. thanks guys. -Jon

Is your bronco a stick or automatic, there is a differance between the two starters. The nose cones are differant. That could be part of your problem.
