Default 88, 302 revs high when shifting

Need help identifing where my problem may lie.
1988 F150 Custom, 302 V8 4X4 Manual tranny
Once the engine has warmed up I have an intermitant problem (more often than not) with the engine reving high when I change gears. When I engage the clutch the engine will rev upwards of 2500 rpm. for aprox 3-5 seconds then come back down to normal.
I changed the throttle cable a while back and it seemed to fix the problem for a couple of months but now the problem is back.
Has anyone had a similar problem ?? and if so what was the fix.
Any help would be apreciated.

Could be a IAC or sticking throttle cable.

Take some WD40 and lube everything good.

WD 40 is fine, but when it comes to cable lines I would go with a good lubricating grease.

IAC- Idle air control.

Controls the amount of air getting in at idle.....therfore controling idle speed.
