99 4.2 into a 97 F150
Hi everyone,
Just looking to see if anyone might be able to help me out. I have a friend who has a 97' F150 with a blown-up 4.2L. He has come across a 99' smashed up F150 with a 4.2L. The motor only has about 52K on it. I was wondering if you guys could tell me if that will interchange. He doesn't want to buy if the injection and intake and wiring has to be changed. If it is a direct fit he will be purchasing it. I apologize for the stupid question, but what can you expect from a Chevy man. LOL
Thanks in advance for the help.

RE: 99 4.2 into a 97 F150
I replaced a 4.6 in a truck once that needed upper intake exchanged, oil filter adapter, front timing cover, pulleys for serp belt etc. ended up being a mess. My asst mgr at shop replaced 4.2 in f-150 once and had no problems, guess it just depends sometimes.

I have a 1997 F150 XL, same 4.2 L from a 2000 is a bit differant, the rear vacuum motrs are electical and the tps has to be jumpered, so far though i cannot get it to start, can't figure the firing order.
A tip, make sure you have a really long extension to reach the transmission bolts, (from the tailshaft)as well as a tool for the fuel lines, be prepared to tap out the flange bolts on the exhaust manifild, other than that it isn't all that bad, just make sure you have lots of room underneath, your gonna be there a lot
