Default Ac problem?

2015 f150 5.0

My old compressor clutch wasn’t engaging so I replaced it with a new mororcraft one , I also replaced the condenser because it was old and failing apart and found out that my expansion valve is stuck so I replaced that too.

vacuumed the system for 45
mins , let it sit for 20 mins guages stayed zero so no leaks

I chargers the system with like 2 and half cans
ac is ice cold inside the truck but my guage fluctuating every few seconds

tempreture outside was 75 running
  • Low side: 25–45 psi (bouncing)
  • High side: 100–150 psi (bouncing)
and when this happen my compressor clutch stop and when the fluctuating happen the compressor clutch moves slowly then it stop then it does the same with the fluctuating of the gauges.

What could be the problem? Is it overcharged? Undercharged ? Or what?

thanks a lot

The compressor is supposed to cycle on and off to maintain the pressures posted.

If you are getting cold air to the inside of your vehicle, that is what is supposed to happen.

Sounds like it is working correctly.

Not sure exactly what you mean by bouncing.

like every few seconds the low fluctuate between 40 and 20 and the high will go like between 150 to 195 and the compressor during that time stop for few seconds then it runs again it kind of going with the fluctuating . Isn’t it suppose to be steady? The cabin inside is ice cold but it just the fluctuating and the clutch stopping and going stopping and going got me worry

If you look at your low side pressure gauge, you will see temperatures for those various pressures.
If it stays below 30 psi too long the system will freeze up with ice and if it stays over 40 psi too long it will blow warm air.

I would say it is performing correctly, enjoy it !

A little piece of information, when you replace parts like compressor, condenser or accumulator, you should drain out any oil inside them and replace that same amount of the correct REFRIGERANT OIL in the new part then proceed to evacuate the system. Otherwise , I believe you did a good job.

so it’s normal for them to bounce like that every few secs and for the compressor to like engage and stop engage and stop with the fluctuating ? That’s normal ?

How do you know if the system is overcharged and undercharged ? For 2015 ford f150 5.0 how many oz of Freon does it take ?

When it is working correctly , the charge is enough and you stop there. Newer vehicles do not require as much refrigerant as compared to older vehicles.

The gauge pressures also help tell you if it is under or over charged..

yes it’s working great the cabin is ice cold but the compressor kick on and off every few seconds and got me paranoid like il see the clutch engage and then after few seconds stops

If the low side pressure goes a lot below 25 psi, it is a little low on refrigerant , you can add a little more. If you add too much, it will not cool as well.
