A lot will depend on the age and condition of the available engine. Different parts of the country get different amounts for used engines.
Some places will provide some type guarantee, but if the engine fails for any reason, the purchaser eats the labor all the way around.

hello - i can't tell how much you should expect to pay. But i can say this, i had an early 90s F250 long bed with manual trans and 2wd with the inline 6 and that was probably the most reliable motor i've every owned. Even after running all the motor oil out of it (filter gasket blew out ), and leaving the radiator lid off and going down the highway and boiling out all the coolant. i forgot to mention this was a rebuilt long block from Oreilys. I was hard on it for sure.

I used it to pull a 19ft bumper pull camper, a heavy beast. And as long as i got a good run at a hill i could keep a decent speed climbing, anything much steeper and would definitely have to shift down.
I live in nw Montana and the winters get very cold, but with a good battery she always started no issue.

good luck.

Unfortunately , a lot of really good engines were dropped because it was pretty hard to get the emissions down to where they would/could meet the requirements.
That was evident by all the add on controls and even then it was tough.
