Emergancy Brake Trouble
I have a 1995 Ford F-150 XLT... My emergancy brake has no feel to it at all and doesnt engage...im think possible cable snap... i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or a diagram of the brake system
Does the e-brake go/drop to the floor, or rigid/stiff ect..
The cables run to the outside of the left frame rail (Drivers side).. Does the e-brake extension cable droop, or is the 'equalizer bar' (where the rear cables come forward and attach/clip in with the extension cable) 'even',, meaning if the one rear cable is longer causing the bar to be angled??

Lookwhere the e-brake cable conduit comes up through the floor board and attaches to the e-brake bracket.. Use your hand and apply the e-brake.. As soon as the e-brake arm starts to travel, the cable should start to move/be pulled out of the conduit.. If not, follow the cable upwards and see if the cable 'end' has snapped off or cut the cable.. If the extension cable from the e-brake ratchetis cut, generally the cables 'mid truck' will be drooping down.. Do you have to lift the e-brake back into position?, or will it still pop up on it's own? Could be the e-brake ratchet itself if the cable doesn't move and the extension/e-brake cables are taunt.. Also,, with the e-brake NOT applied,, lay along the left frame area, then grab the e-brake cable which SHOULD have slight tightness already applied to it, and give it a real 'hardy' tug towards yourself (easiest direction).. Do you see the 2 rear cables on the frame mounting bracket move 'outwards' in their conduits? You should see the 2 rear inner cables being pulled out slightly of their conduits and shouldn't be more than about 3/8" or so..
Another way is to have someone apply the e-brake on/off so you can see the cable/s being pulled verifying a good ratchet, extension cable ect.. Then with the brake ON, grab the cable at the mid frame area and give it a yank.. If it still pulls more cable from the 2 rear conduits, it's a problem in the rear brakes, cable/s... If at the equalizer bar it pulls 1 of the rear brake cables farther, or one cable is completely loose look towards that brake as fault.. Follow the cable to right/left... The equalizer 'should' be close to a vertical position and cables 'even'as extended from their conduits.. Or close to..
