Default Engine stamp number

I have 2005 4.6 litre in a F-150 4x4. I realize the engine stamp number( located on valve cover)and is part the Vin but what if motor has been replaced with another and not recorded. I could be buying wrong parts or how do you verify the numbers ? Thank you! clennie

if it is same size and year engine then you won't be buying the wrong parts. that being said if the engine came out of a different year truck then you need to know what the engine came out of and buy the parts accordingly
