Default F-150 Sticks in 1st Gear (Auto)

I have a 2012 F-150 with 123,000 miles. A couple of weeks ago after coming to a stop, I accelerated and it stayed in first gear. I tried manual shifting with no luck, so I pulled over and turned the off the motor. After re-start, everything worked fine.

Since then, it has happened maybe 4-5 times. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, how was it fixed?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Pete

We always ask if and when was the trans serviced last?

If a speed sensor is not working correctly it could affect shifting.

Good suggestion , check the vehicle for any codes.

Thanks for the responses. The transmission was serviced in June of last year, so about 13 months ago. Flush and new filter. It has been driven about 21,000 miles since and does not have any codes coming up. It is intermittent.

Intermittent problems are always a challenge to pin down.
Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,you could always wait for it to get bad enough so it is easier to determine what is wrong.

Can you check for any codes before shutting the engine off after it acts up Sometimes when the ign is shut off the system resets and you will not see a code.

Intermittent is difficult for sure. When it happens, it does not indicate any codes have come up. I will keep my code reader with me and when it happens will give that a try.

Usually, I do my own service, but I will likely take it in to the dealership for LOF and then ask them about it and see what they have to say. I will let you know if I am able to get it resolved.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Myself, I would take it to a good transmission shop for their opinion. Problem with transmissions are, a small intermittent problem could cause internal damage and result in a major repair. I would not let a dealer get into my transmission. They often have limited knowledge on them and sublet the repair to a transmission shop anyway.
