Default Ford F-150 1997 starter

So I tried hitting the starter trick to get my truck going and it worked! I’m not able to replace the starter at the moment, however I just wanted some advice to how long the starter can last with that trick.

There's no way to predict that. My advice, don't go far before replacing your starter and carry your small hammer.

Depending on if that is the original starter and how much it was used.
What is happening when it works when you hit the starter is ; the brushes in it could either be worn and you got away with one last start or if the brushes just stuck.and a tap help them to come down and make contact. Both will eventually require starter replacement. To better answer your question of how long, Only a working crystal ball might provide some answer, take your best shot.

So it started having the problem when it was like -6 ish in Colorado. I let it run like 10 minutes after the hit trick worked. I noticed it was low on coolant so my mom took me in her car to go get some. So like 15 minutes it was off. I turned it back on and left to fill the air up/gas turned it off and back on again two times. Drove home. I’m hoping this can last me till I graduate high school in 3 months. My baby has got me almost all though school hoping she stays in a bit longer🙏🔮 but definitely Thank you both for responding!<3
