Would a bad coolant temperature sensor cause your truck to not run and does it have a battery temp sensor

Yes,
If it is electrically shorted internally, it can bring down the voltage to all the sensors on the circuit and prevent the engine from starting.

After a certain year a battery temp sensor could be incorporated into the battery cable.

It could cause a no start ,but the check engine light should come on if it is shorted and the coolant temp info to the computer would be incorrect.
Are you speculating or do you have a definite reason to suspect the coolant sensor?
Would you care to tell us what kind of problem your vehicle has ?
Need year, model, engine size , mileage and recent maintenance history.
Be as specific as you can and hopefully we may be able to offer some suggestions that might help.
Are you using a code reader or scan tool?
If your vehicle has a security (anti-theft) system, do you have more than one key ?
Depending on the year , model, , anti-theft may or may not allow starter to work or fuel .

A few questions;
Does the check engine light stay on or go out when cranking or attempting to start the engine?
Anti-theft will not cause an engine once running to shut down.
Can we ask did it overheat?

Do you know if you have spark available to the spark plugs?

Did you check ALL the fuses, those in the cab and those under the hood?

When it shut down , did it cut off sharply or feel like it was running out of fuel?

If you have spark , then you might try spraying a short shot of Carb and Choke cleaner , closest to gasoline, into the intake and see if it will start even if for a few seconds. If it does, there is a fuel supply problem. You could also check if there is adequate fuel pressure at the fuel rail. This might require the use of a capable scan tool.

You state it wouldn't start until it cooled off, I'm pretty sure it is cooled off now, please explain.

A compression test might help explain if anything other than a fuel or spark problem is present.
