Help

I have a Ford f150 ½ ton 5.0 and it will not crank it will make the turning noise as if it wants to but doesn’t. Can someone help with some things it could be? I was also told that it is just turning over and not cranking. We have already changed the distributer

I don't understand; is the engine turing over, or isn't it? If you hear the starter turning, then the engine is turning and not firing. If you turn the key and nothing happens, then we are talking something completely different. More detail, please.

Default RE: HELP

The starter engages the engine at a large gear called the fly wheel or flex plate. If the starter is spinning without turning the engine you will hear it spin verry fast (no load). If the engine is turning you will hear the normal sound heard when starting the car before it fires and runs. If the turning sound very sluggish and unusualy slow it is probably your battery.

common failures for starting
battery
starter / bendix
starter relay
fly wheel gear teath / starter mis aligned
wiring frayed, loose, or burned
