Default hole in plenum

After removing throttle body where it connects to plenum, there is a hole going from the top of plenum too bottom of plenum where the throttle body connects. About an inch inside the plenum. Should this hole be there? This is a 1995 f150 5.0 with over 200000 miles. I noticed this while tearing down to replace fuel injectors. After removing throttle body I noticed just about an inch inside the plenum there is a hole going from the top of plenum into the bottom. Puzzled because the hole looks very ragged and uneven. Should this hole be there?
