What wires did you disturb or remove to do this job?
Every time I had to replace a shift tube, I found it easier to remove the steering column and do the job on the workbench.then reinstall the column.
It was quick and easy.
What is happening may be a poor connection where the plugs connect if you separated them.

the only wires i had to mess with, was the wires that run to the button the end of the shifter (the overdrive toggle) i checked and double checked that i had plugged that connector back in. and i did
