Default my truck keeps running-help

ok, here it goes. i started my truck and left it running while i worked in the yard. when i went to shut it off i removed the key and the engine kept running. i got into the truck and put the key back in and turned the key back on and off several times but the engine kept running. i then put my foot on the brake and as soon as i did the engine shut off. is this something that is supposed to happen or is there a problem that i should look into?

1997 Ford F-150 4x4 supercab lariat 5.4L

Thanks for reading and any help you can give me!!!

Default figured it out

well after messing with the remote entry for a few minutes i figured out that the truck has remote start. when i was working in the yard i must of pressed the buttons on the second remote that i had in my pocket and activated something cause i can now get it to work everytime. anyway, thanks to all those who at least took the time to read my post.

Don't know 'how many' times I've jumped into my truck and put my foot on the brake to pull the gear shift down only to have the engine die.. Yep,, keys still in pocket

Do that all the time myself. Then I watch my wife roll her eyes.
