Default need wiring help

need some help wiring a light to a small gauge down below my dash by the floor in my 92 f150. I have a wiring diagram from a haynes manual, however im not very good at wiring so its like looking at a puzzle to me. Basically i just need some advice as to where to run the wire and how to meet it (with im guessing the headlight wires). Anything will help me

Do you have access to a test lite? If so, then if you take the left side of the dash where the headlite switch is located it just pops out if you carefully pull on it. there is a connecting plug that goes on the headlite switch. One of the wires on that plug feeds the dash lites and is controlled by the dimmer section of the liteswitch. With a test lite you can find that wire (only one of about 4) tap into that wire and you are set.

Default need more help

Hanky, I found the harness that leads to the headlight switch. there are about 6 wires that lead to it. i should be able to find the correct color in my diagrams, but when i run the wire from the gauge light to the dash light wire how do i connect it all together? im guessing i use a male and female adapter?

There are a couple of ways to do this.
1. Cut the correct wire and use a butt connector to rejoin them. Strip off about a 1/4 inch of insulation from one end (plug end) and about 3/8 inch from the end you are going to join with the new tap. One end of the connector could go to the plug side of the wire while the other end of the wire you just cut gets joined with the wire for the new lite and gets crimped to the other end of the butt connector.
2. Use a pick to pierce the wire you want to tap into , then insert the tap wire into the pierced hole and twist it tightly to make a tight connection and tape the joint to insure no movement and insulate the connection from coming in contact with any sheet metal(ground). That's all you need to do.
