Default Please help-4x4 issue

I have a 1984 F-150 4X4 and I was changing the pressure valve hose on the front pumpkin (Dana 44) and I noticed that pumpkin hose fitting seems to have a cap on it. Is this normal??? It kind of feels like a one way only pressure valve, like a PCV valve. Please help I am going on a long hunting trip and I want to make sure it not some kind of “old man repair”, I don’t want to cause and pressure leaks.
