Default Power Steering Pump

We have a 1990 Ford F-150. My husband needs to replace the power steering pump. The problem he is having is that the parts store has 2 different kinds. How does he know what kind to buy from the parts store?

The difference is one is metric, and the other standard thread.. To be sure, pull the old pump and have itmatched to the replacement pump at the counter.. Not a bad idea anyways, since parts can be boxed wrong at times....

Thank you for your response. I will tell my DH to do that.

Also,, the belt pulley is a 'press on' fit.. It requires a special puller/installer to remove and replace the pulley on the pump shaft if he doesn't already have one.. Generally the replacement pump will have a 'bolt' style installer included that will do the job, but is of no help to remove the pulley... There's a few different remove/install tool styles, but this is a general likeness..
