Question Question on Going in and out of 4wheel drive

My brother has a 2015 f150 4wheel drive. when ever he goes from 4wheel high back to 2 wheel he backs it up to unwind some springs He was told to do this on a older truck he had. Do you still have to do this on a newer truck

I believe it was suggested to remove any "Windup" in the driveline..
It won't hurt anything if it was still done.
