Default Tow package

Looking at 2016 4x4 F150 XLT 5.0L V8, 3.55 rear gear ratio, class 4 hitch to pull 2 horse trailer. It does not have tow package. I can add the transmission cooler but what else besides wire harness would I lose out on and do I need to be concerned?

an option I would want is active sway control. See if it offered by ford.

this system has a factory brake controller that is integrated into the antilock brake system and stability control system. it will activate the trailer brakes alone or with individual front brakes to stop sway.

I have seen this system work in real life and it is impressive. I was passed by a ram pick up who was driving way to fast...he hit a dip in the road and the trailer started to sway. the system activated and immediately corrected the condition. no way human interaction would have been fast enough to save this guy from a accident.

buy it with the options you need. configuring it later costs just as much and is not built as well as factory.

Default Towing

Thank you for the response. Apparently this had the tow package and they didn't know it. Now the only issue with this truck is has a 3.3 rear gear ratio. Loaded trailer probably runs 6000 pounds. Seller is telling me because of lighter weight with aluminum body that will be fine. I am not really believing that. Talked to one Ford guy yesterday who said no, stick to 3.55 or better for any trailer that would be heavier. Any thoughts on that?

I ordered my 2015 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew with the 3.5EB and 3:15 gears. It's rated at 10,700 lb tow capacity. Since the F-150 comes with Tow/Haul selector, the 3:31 gear ratio shouldn't be no issue. It's not like you're hauling the trailer uphill 24/7.
