1976 ford f250 Camper special automatic transmission wont shift!
Hey there again now we have another problem no my alternator charges but when i turned it on and shifted into reverse nothing happened then into drive same thing its like i never switch gears its an automatic nothing special i have heard these things have a special sensor on the brake pedal what is wrong?
Also when i switch it into gear i fell like it has no safety switch just in park and in drive. in reverse and neutral it just moves all over the place
one more thing i put the marker into drive and accelerated to about 2500 rpm
and for a scare of my life it shifted really hard almost smashing into my wall

This will require two people to do this.
Block the wheels so the vehicle cannot roll.
Have someone in the vehicle move the shift lever through the different positions and observe what the arm on the trans does.
I believe you at this time, have an accident waiting to happen and until you know exactly what is going on should not operate the vehicle in any closed space or with other people around.

If I am correct, which isn't too often, what you are referring to regarding the brake pedal, consists of a solenoid that when the brake pedal is depressed that solenoid is energized and pulls a tab away so the shift lever can be moved out of the park position.
It was a safety device to prevent the shift lever from leaving the park position without the driver having his/her foot on the brake pedal to insure the vehicle was under a driver's control.
Also, check the torx bolts for the arm at the bottom of the shift column for looseness or missing bolts, probably the simple fix. Not sure if this applies to 1976 vintage.

Shift lock doesn't apply to this, so don't bother.
If you meant that the truck wouldn't move, then you gave it gas and then it (violently) engaged then moved, check the ATF; this sounds like a low fluid level or possily the filter came off, which would cause nearly the same thing. Also, when underneath the truck, check to see if the vacuum line going to the vac. modulator (on the rt. back side of the trans, if memory serves correctly) is on and ok. Also, check to be sure the throttle kickdown rod is attached to the carb and the trans.
The transmission is a C-6, period. There were no other automatics in this sytle truck of that generation, and no other options.
On the other hand, I've seen a 302 with a C-4 trans, but that wasn't often.
