Just replaced the front brake rotors. Two questions if you guys have a sec.....
1) While I was in there decided to replace the Inner bearing seal. Only I didnt pay close attention when i took the old one out. Is the seal supposed to be flush with the side walles of the hub? Or driven down til it stops? See pic if i can upload.. The reason i ask is the wheel seems to rotate a bit tight. Maybe be related to second question
2) The Chiltons manual says to tighten the inner lo
cking nut to 50 ft lbs then back off 90 degrees to set the bearings. Then the outer locking nut to 160 ft lbs. Using the four pronged spindle nut socket is almost impossible to push/hold in and get to 160-205 ft lbs. I got it to maybe 100. Do folks really tighten it that much? When i took it off, it definetily was not that tight. Came off with maybe 50 ft lbs. And the last person working in there was a local repair shop several years ago.
The wheels just seem to rotate (by hand) a bit stiifer/ tighter than when i took the wheel off. Maybe i need to drive it to work the packed bearings around a bit.
