1997 f250 steering problem
experiencing pulling to right on an intermittent basis. Usually occurs when making a turn in either direction. Steering wheel will not come back to center with out a fight. While holding on with both hands you will experience a jerk to the right. Turning wheel all the way to the right then to the left will clear this problem for awhile. Ford already replaced steering box saying the spooling gear was bad. Now they have no answers for why it is still happening. Any one with any advice would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance
Do you have manual hubs in the front (for the four-wheel drive)? if you do usually whats happens the u-joints in the front end get rusty from sittin and not being turned. when they get rusty it will cause them to stick when turning (turning the wheel side to side). lock your hubs in and drive it for a little ways then unlock themif it helps then that was probly your problem. if it does help however have a mechanic look at them, they may need to be replaced...
yep , most of the time when i run into this problem it is the gearbox spool assembly that isbinding -but if it was already replaced and you have the same concern -jack up thefront of truck and see if the ball joints are rusted and sticking or if any of the steering linkage is sticking also like the previous guy says it very well could be ujoints if it is a 4x4-i have replaced ball joints for this problem because they would intermittantly stick and not let the knuckle turn, mark.
