2001 7.3 issues
i have a couple of issues that i dont know if they are related my oil consumption is about a quart a week i checked for a leak at nite with a pan underneath the truck and probably got a minimal amount of drops underneath i see dried oil down the exhaust coming from the engine bay on the passenger side I also have recently letting white smoke out the exhaust on take off anyone can help tht would be great THANKS
Hey,
I got a 2002 7.3 Diesel, and I have the same issue. Although, I i don't have white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I talked to a buddy of mine and he told me that they may have a small pipe (3/4" maybe ) and Diesel's will release some steaming vapors from the top of the valves some where. This vapor as it cools, it turns into condensate and run downs bringing oils down with it. I am not to sure if this is true. I just noticed this on my truck this weekend and have been keeping an eye on the oil level. My truck only drops about three to five drops of oil or so, and nithing more. I haven't noticed any significant drop on my dip stick, so I am not to concern eith it.
But if anyone has more information, I would greatly appriciate it.
Thanks

david paul my cousin also told me it could be the turbo is it true there is an in and out oil line to the turbo i bought a manual from pep boys so i have to locate the oil lines and tighten them and see if that does anything the leak must only be happening when i drive Thank for the info.
The 7.3 turbo doesn't have external oil lines, but does have orings on the turbo pedestal for the oil supply and return.. Is the engine block valley dry? Look into the blocks valley up top and close to the highpressure oil pump.. HPOP and the lines can leak or sweat, collect in the valley and leak down the right side of the engine block.. Generally the 7.3 isn't a leaker... Also, whats the mileage on your truck?
The 7.3 doesn't have a blow by tube/pipe.. Engine blow by is vented through the left valve cover and is taken into the intake/turbo..It's a closed system..Like in the previous post, start by looking into the engine 'valley' and it should be completely 'dry'.. If you see puddled oil there, it will flow to the back area of the valley where it runs out the right/passenger side of the block.. High pressure (HPOP) oil pump leaks aren't uncommon, or its high prssure lines.. More so on higher mileage engines.. This would be the first place I'd look, then, if the valley is dry, making my way down and around.. It helps if you can completely clean the engine, then drive it a few miles hot, and recheck for any leaks.. Doesn't mean it couldn't be leaking from another area, like seals, covers ect. but the 7.3 is a pretty oil tight engine in most cases..
i have about 105,000mi. on it and i just got it within 1 month of me having it the hpop o-ring went and had to be replaced most of the oil drained out an i had to have it towed to a mechanic that was the most expensive piece of rubber i paid for after that this is my problem ill check by the hpop
Thanks for the info
