2004 F250 6.0 Diesel hard starting when cold
Hello all,
I have the infamous 2004 F250 6.0 Diesel with the ongoing EGR issue. Truck has 64,000 miles on it. The EGR has been replaced twice now along with the turbo after the last EGR episode. Truck running fine right now. The problem I'm having now is hard starting in the current northern Utah weather (about 20 degrees). For the first few years it would always start right up when cold but needed to be warmed up for about 5 minutes.
Yesterday I wore the battery out trying to get it started and had to jump it. It finally started but chugged and made quite a racked for a couple of minutes but warmed up and ran great. For the past year or so I've noticed that even after it starts I need to let it warm up for at least 5 to 10 minutes or when I take off, it won't shift properly. Until warm, it it will not shift into the next gear without winding real high on the rpm's then slams into the nest gear. When warm, no prob.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Jim

Has it had any or the latest calibration level update during the EGR/turbo replacement?
There's a calibration change for hard start, no start, chugging, white smoke, lack of power ect. conditions on a cold start, as well as false EGR, exhaust back pressure codes.. Batteries aged? Cranking speed mets spec? I had to change out the batteries in my 05 two years ago for cranking speed/start issues especially when cold after any heating....
