Default 2005 F350 6.0L Water Pump

Stupid question I think.

Just getting around to doing the repairs to my F350 2005 6.0L that have been wanting to do for a year. Replacing many broken plastic parts from previous owners/repairs . Decided to replace the Stator and Fan shroud and figured heck if have it all off why not check the belt out and the water pump since it has 260K on it, and I don't know when it was replaced last time.

Used the special tool to remove fan from pump 47 mm nut. Then I think remove the pully cup there 4 bolts right?

QUESTION #1 I can't get them to budge and I don't want to shear the bolts off. It is righty tighty on this and lefty loosey?? Correct? seems stupid I know but I researched it and it was only 34 ft/lbs for these bolts and from what I see I'm going to need a breaker bar unless I'm going the wrong way with them.

QUESTION #2 Haven't started this in a year. It was running fine when I started to take it apart. Any suggestions to get it to start easily.

QUESTION #3 Water pumps. Many out there. Anywhere from 80 to 400 bucks. Any suggestions? Some say they move more water than others. Is anything I read about the pumps true?

Thanks-JH

I would also replace any questionable hoses and a thermostat (OEM).

1. The pulley bolts will break loose easier if the belt is on and tensioned. If the bolts break, no big deal, you are replacing the water pump anyway. Just replace any broken bolts with the proper grade.. If the pump attaching bolts won't budge, use heat, a breaker bar and tap with a hammer. Don't try to muscle it because they could snap. .
2. I am not familiar with diesels and won't pretend to be.
3. You can get a Motorcraft pump for roughly $128 from Rock Auto. There are less expensive ones if your budget is tight. My belief is to buy the best and do it once. I would stay away from anything claiming to move more water and stick with a stock pump. To move more water means to speed up the flow speed. That's not a good thing. When water moves too fast, the transfer of heat is negatively affected.

Thanks . I hit them with a torch and PB Blaster. They came off lefty loosey. But with 30 inch breaker bar. I know the fan clutch had been replaced at least once and some one didn't torque correctly. Sheet with specs attached. I pulled this from another 6.0L post. It seems correct.

+1 on a Motorcraft water pump. There is a water pump for early 6.0's and you don't want that.

The part you need is 4C3Z-8501-AC.

I like Tasca better than Rock Auto, but I agree with raski!

Yeah - that is crazy to have to remove them with a torch.
