I know a used car dealer that had a 2007 duramax that would use 25 gallons of fuel on a 120 mile trip hauling 3 cars, thats just short of 5 m.p.g.He now has an 08 duramax,I haven`t asked him about the milage yet.GM had to buy the 07 back it had a power loss problem that they couldn`t fix.

Ive read a lot of posts on a lot of fourms about the 6.4L getting terrible mileage. Unfortunately, the 6.4 is a direct result of the new emissions laws. Seems to me the newer the truck, the worse the mileage. My 97 reg cab F350 7.3 5spd with 4.10s got 22-23 mpg hwy and 16-17 mpg pulling 14,000 lbs. My current 2000 F350 crew cab auto with 3.73s gets about 16 mpg hwy empty and 11-12 mpg pulling 8,000 lbs.

I bought a 2008 F350 DRW, and wrote ford about the MPG of mine, from 10 to 13 not pulling anything! Here is what they wrote Back! LOL

Thank you for contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center regarding the gas mileage on your 2008 Ford I-350.

> Fuel economy can often be improved through regular service and changes to driving habits. Any of the following 13 suggestions may help improve your mileage:
>
> 1) Go easy on the brakes and accelerator.
> 2) Avoid "jackrabbit" starts by accelerating gradually whenever possible.
> 3) Anticipate stops to avoid sudden braking.
> 4) Avoid long idles. Idling burns more fuel than restarting the engine.
> 5) Limit the amount of time spent warming up the vehicle during winter.
> 6) Avoid carrying unneeded items in the trunk. Extra weight decreases fuel economy.
> 7) Reduce drag by placing items inside the car or trunk rather than on roof racks.
> 8) Avoid high speeds. Fuel economy can improve approximately 15 percent when a vehicle is operated at 55 miles per hour (MPH) in comparison to the same distance at 65 MPH.
> 9) Use your air conditioning only when necessary. Roll down the windows or open the air vents to keep your car comfortable on cooler days.
> 10) Use overdrive if your car is equipped with overdrive gearing.
> 11) With manual transmissions, the lower the shift speed, the better the fuel economy will be. Your Owner's Manual will provide further information in this area.
> 12) Keep tires properly inflated and aligned.
> 13) Get regular engine tune-ups and vehicle maintenance checks. By following your owner's guide for recommended maintenance intervals, you should avoid fuel economy problems due to worn spark plugs, dragging brakes, low transmission fluid, or the transmission not going into high gear.

You mentioned the regeneration cycle. Is that when the engine starts to scream with loss of power and typically after the truck has been running a while? Ive taken my F250 in for what I thought may be a fan clutch problem or even a cylinoid sticking issue. Im no expert, but could I possibly be describing the regeneration reference you made? Thanks

Well, if you buy a Chevy, like Toyota says, you're buying less of an american vehicle than the Toyota's percentage is. Besides that. I have a 2005 f350 5.4 that is just stellar. I'm having my first problem, (have a bad coil somewhere). I get around 16 mpg in the hills of Vermont and even better on the flats of NYS (unloaded) The only problem I have ever had with a Ford that actually alarmed me was a spark plug left the head and wasted my coil. Now I'm thinking of having a garage do my plugs in case this problem wasn't fixed with the 3 valve version.

a chip will void the warranty. once the warranty is up, it is a good idea to do dpf delete, air intake, and egr delete. my dad's friend did that after his was up and is now seeing 19 mpg city
