Default F-250 Fire....won't shift gears

Hi, new here. My friend owns a late 1980's or early 1990's F250 4x4 that he bought brand new and kept in good repair. A couple of years ago the engine cought fire. He replaced all the damaged hoses, or so he believes, and has it running again; but, it will not shift out of park (automatic). He want's me to see if I can fix it although I do not have much experiance in these matters. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't recall the exact year Ford instituted the shift lock solenoid. This was to prevent the shift lever from moving out of park without depressing the brake pedal.
Under the dash would be a solenoid that is activated by the stoplite circuit. You might start checking there.
