Default 2010 F250 fuel gauge innacurate

I own a 2010 f250 4x4 crew cab with a 6.4l diesel with only 6800 miles on it. I was making a trip of about 315 miles last week when my fuel tank showed just under 1/4 tank and a range of 58 miles when the truck died at highway speed. after being towed on a Sunday night and spending the night in a motel, about noon the following day, the Ford dealership discovered that the truck had run out of fuel. This is very annoying since this is a new truck and the tow bill and motel room cost $342.00. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I had the same problem with my 06 at 50 miles to go, it would
start running out of fuel. I took it to my dealer and of course
they said it was normal, I didn't buy it, insisted they take it further
told me that they contacted ford, and told me not to run it that
low and it shouldn't be a problem. So I pulled the tank myself
and found the pickup screen and the plastic mushroom looking
piece had fell off the down tube or was never installed, leaving
the down tube about 2-3 inches from the bottom. I replaced
with new parts, and could run it down to 0 miles with no worries
after that

I have a 2010 F250 4x4 truck and was on a 400 mile trip and had about 55 miles left on the range with the gauge showing well above 1/4 left when it quit at highway speed of about 60 MPH. It was towed to the dealership and they determined it had run out of fuel. I have requested a new sending unit be installed but wonder if that is the cure. My truck has about 11,000 miles and it about 5 months old. What have you had done to resolve the problem?
Here is an update to this issue. The FORD dealership checked out the fuel gauge and associated equipment and said it was all good. I asked if they verified the tank was actually empty and the answer was "NO". I asked them to drop the tank and check inside for the problem and FORD would not approve it under warranty. Still have the same problem and have run out of gas once more since then. The low truck runs out of fuel prior to the low fuel warring coming on.

I have the same truck and same problem. I have noticed that I can put 20 gallons in the guage is 1/2 or more. I haven't run out of fuel yet but I've put nearly 30 gallons in when I'm on 1/4 of a tank. This is ridiculous.

Default 2010 f150 same problem

My truck started having problems with about 20000 miles on it. It will show a 1/4 tank full, than jump to 1/2 full. I hoped it was making gas ha ha. Than went back down to 1/4 tank. It did this a couple times, within a week. It seems to have stop jumpng around now.

use your trip odometer..zero up at fill up,and then check again at half full.At least this way you can get an idea of your average gas mlieage, and go from there.I can't speak for the actual fix,but my new (2010 F350) truck, will take about 20 gal when the gauge shows 3/4/ tank (capacity 38 gal).
Just don't run low enough to risk pushing it.If you're really compulsive, take it all apart, inspect, and readjust the float arm (unless it's plastic!).I don't have the shop manual set just yet,so that's my best guess.GSD
