2015 F350 6.2 gas pulling new 34ft 5th
So last fall I bought a 15 F350 in great shape with low miles with the 6.2 gas. Of course the salesman said "oh yeah, it will pull anything a diesel will" So, I just bought a new Montana High Country 34 ft. 5th wheel. I live in NW Wyoming and plan on pulling camper (with a trailer behind with side by side on it) . Most of my trips will be within two hours but many mountain climbs. How will this gasser handle it? When you search for 6.2 versus diesel on here, you get a lot of 6.2 fans......all thoughts appreciated
It's all about the torque. You always hear about HP, doesn't matter much when towing, especially uphill, it's the torque.
6.2 gasser 405 lb/ft @ 4500 rpm hp rating - 385 @ 5500 rpm
6.7 diesel 860 lb/ft @ 1600 rpm hp rating - 440 @ 2800 rpm
The 6.2 is "adequate" but can't touch the 6.7, plus the fuel economy is much better on the 6.7.
Just sayn'

Torque along with gearing will help keep your engine in that "SWEET" spot when towing. Cuts down on excessive shifting (even when using Tow/Haul mode). What gears does the truck have? The 6.2 will be running at 3X the RPMs as the diesel to get 1/2 the torque the diesel produces.
