2019 Ford F-350 Trailer Issue
The issue I'm having is that the truck isn't recognizing there is a trailer connected at all times. I have a 16' Interstate V-Nose Trailer with a battery backup that is connected to the pull away switch and the brakes. Which means you have to apply 12V to engage the brakes. When I hook up the trailer to the bumper male connector, I can see the truck initially recognizes that a trailer is attached. I see the blue bar pop up on the dashboard. I pull ahead just a little bit in my driveway and (1) of the brakes engages and stops the tire, the other (3) i need to tighten the brakes. Just noticed this last night. So far everything is good, however here is my issue. When I drive 1/2 a mile down the road, get to a stop, the trailer will stop, but after leaving that first stop, I'll get no trailer connected and the brakes no longer engage on the trailer. How does the truck know a trailer is connected? Is it the resistance from the brakes and that I don't have all (4) correct, that the truck loses connection? My next option is to see if they sell an extension and hook the trailer up to the inside truck bed connector.
Things I've tried:
1. started the truck, verified the trailer is connected on the dashboard, then had my son wiggle the connector to see if I have a loose connection on the bumper connector - Nope good and tight
2. metered the pins from the female cable end to the connection box under the trailer - nope all good
3. verified that I have 6V on the blue wire in the connection box under the trailer (while in park the truck only puts out 6V on the blue wire, while driving that voltage will go up, along with the setting in the truck blue bar, based on my reading research)
4. pulled the pull away switch while the trailer is hooked up to the truck and tried to pull forward, brakes are locked
5. looked under the bumper at the backside of the plug and everything looks fine but didn't visually inspect thoroughly
