460 no oil pressure and backfiring
Wasn't sure where to post this, so posted it in New Users and here both. Sorry if that's incorrect.
Hey all,
We own a 1988 Champion Eurocoach RV with a 1987 Ford 460 engine. Yesterday we were driving and the oil pressure dropped to zero. The engine also started backfiring. Got towed off the exit ramp where we stopped to a mechanics shop right off the exit.
Here's what they've checked so far: Distributor shaft and gears are fine. Valves are fine, even though initially they thought the #2 valve was stuck open. The rocker arms and push rods were loose but we haven't let them remove intake manifold to check the camshaft bearings, but that is what they want to do next. We asked them to at least check the oil pump, pull the pan, etc... They did do an oil pressure test with an external gauge and there was no pressure. But there was oil squirting out of the filter with the engine cranking, but not reaching the block.
Please please help with any and all suggestions, however remote they might seem. I'm sure you can imagine the work involved in pulling or removing an entire RV engine >.>, so hoping not to go there.
Thanks in advance!
