Default 5.4 3 valve differences

I have a 2008 F 350 with the 5.4 which needs replacing. What is the difference in the 07 and 08 engines and will other years fit with no problems? I have seen answers both ways. BTW, the 8th digit of the VIN is 5.

From what I could tell, the 5.4 SOHC EFI engines for a 2007 and a 2008 were the same.
Try checking , www.ford fleet.com and you can go to the vehicle decoder section for each year (heavy duty-F350) , think you will find what you are looking for there.

Default rephrase

Let me rephrase that, the 07 and 08 5.4 engines are different than the rest of the 5.4s. I know they have phased cams, but is there anything else different and will the other years bolt in and run under the 07/08 computer, etc.?

Ford changes specs from year to year where the engines may be similar , but the programming can be different.
