6.0 What's "Normal" IPR/ICP when under load
Yesterday was my first trip to southern Indiana after replacing both stand pipes and dummy plugs, as well as the IPR in my 2004 6.0 F350.
I use a scan gauge II to monitor various engine functions, and since I'm just coming off a failed stand pipe/low oil pressure hot no start, I was watching IPR/ICP as I made my trip.
Going down I was pulling a heavy, 26', gooseneck trailer (empty) and coming back it was loaded with about 20,000lbs of hay (Round bales).
On acceleration I'd see the IPR going as high as 84.7%. The ICP would fluctuate 1200 to over 2200 at times.
At rest, such as a stop light, the IPR would sit at around 22% and the ICP would be at around 580.
Coming back north the truck is pulling that load up some pretty serious ridges.....Since I have 3 more trips like this to make, and was stranded during the initial loss of the stand pipe o-ring (before the repair) it makes me a bit anxious to see that 84.7% on the IPR especially when it seems to stay there for a bit.....
I know I don't want to see that IPR going over 85%...but 84.7% seen pretty darn close.....
Is this normal under these conditions, or should I be looking for another problem...

Just remember that the IPR % duty cycle is a commanded value - it does not represent a true valve position. When it is at 85% (or even 84.7%), it means that it is calling for more ICP pressure than it is really getting. You can verify this by watching the actual ICP pressure AND the ICP desired pressure.
If you are not lacking any power, then it probably isn't worth worrying about - at least IMO anyway.
